Lori Janeson is an avid outdoorswoman, busy mom, and proud small business owner who divides her limited time between Winnipeg, Manitoba, and her beloved vacation cabin on the western shore of Lake Winnipeg, some two hours north.
Lori Janeson: Gull Harbour Marina
Much of Lori’s time is devoted to the refurbishment and day-to-day management of Gull Harbour Marina, a small resort property that she and husband David co-own.
Located on the northeastern end of Hecla Island, in Lake Winnipeg’s picturesque southern lobe, the property draws boaters, diners, and overnight guests seeking an authentic taste of Hecla Grindstone Provincial Park.
Lori Janeson: Kayaking and Adventure Travel
When Lori’s not at the Marina, she’s most likely to be found with her three children, who range in age from early middle school to late high school.
An avid kayaker and nature photographer, Lori tries to spend as much time as possible with her kids outside, taking in the fresh air and beautiful scenery — weather permitting. When the weather isn’t cooperating, she supports her kids in other ways — fundraising for local school improvement projects, for instance.
Lori, David, and the kids manage to get away from Manitoba at least once per year. In the past, they’ve traveled to Mexico and Central America, Hawaii, France, England, New Zealand, various southeast Asian countries, even Fiji. When they can’t swing a transoceanic trip, their go-to vacation is much closer to home: Lori’s family farmstead, where they teach the kids the value of a hard day’s work.
